Poole Academy of Dance

Our Classes
We offer classes in Classical Ballet, Modern Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Lyrical, Acrobatics, Drama and Group Singing

Ballet
Sophia Marsh, Laura Eastwood
and Carli Stephens
We offer graded classes in classical ballet from the age of 2½. Children from the age of 3 are offered the opportunity to take their Silver and Gold Rose examinations with the BTDA. Children and teachers enter the exam room together giving the children confidence for future examinations. When the children have passed their Rose awards they move to Royal Academy of Dance Ballet Grades starting from Primary in Dance, Grade 1 through to Grade Eight. PPA's are taken every two years, where the children undertake the learning of a solo dance and perform it in front of an examiner and audience.
These classes require a uniform which can be purchased from the uniform page on our website.
From the age of 11 high achieving students will be picked to enrol in Royal Academy of Dance Major Ballet classes with Carli Stephens, these students will take examinations in the Major grades alongside their graded examinations.
Tap
Sophia Marsh and Laura Eastwood
We study the British Theatre Dance Association syllabus for tap. Starting with our youngest taking Silver and Gold Rose Awards and then on to Graded classes, through to senior level with students taking Major examinations ending their training with a Diploma in Tap.
PPA's are taken every two years where the students will experience a solo dance performance.

Modern Jazz
Sophia Marsh and Laura Eastwood
We study the British Theatre Dance Association syllabus for Modern Jazz. Starting with our youngest taking Silver and Gold Rose Awards and then on to Graded classes, through to senior level with students taking Major examinations ending their training with a Diploma in Modern Jazz.
PPA's are taken every two years where the students will experience a solo dance performance.
Acrobatics
Sophia Marsh and Laura Eastwood
Acrobatics is a subject for the more flexible student. Children learn cartwheels, splits, handstands, bridges, and back-overs, and more advanced students learn ariels and back handsprings and more complex moves. Acrobatics is a mixture of ballet and gymnastics, therefore it does not over develop the body in the way that gymnastics can. Students must be over the age of 5 and will be assessed on ability and flexibility before being allowed to take part in this class

Lyrical and Contemporary
Sarah Battez
Students learn lyrical dance and Contemporary dance in this class - learning both genres of dance gives the a wide range of movement and enables them to push themselves as a dancer - this class is for upper school students of year 7 and above only.
Academy Actors
Abbie Wills
Our Acting classes welcome students from age 5 upwards, providing a supportive environment to explore performance from the very beginning. Alongside developing essential acting skills, students are encouraged to build confidence, creativity, and stage presence that will serve them both on and off the stage. Pupils have the opportunity to take accredited LAMDA examinations, gaining recognised qualifications as they progress. Each year, students also take part in our annual Showcase, bringing their hard work to life in front of an audience and celebrating their growth as performers.

Academy Singers
Tim Dowland
Tim offers group vocal coaching for students in year 3 and above. The students learn how to warm up their voice and sing a vast range of music genre in class. The students are given many opportunities to sing at live events and charity work as a group.
